I once spent $200 on a hotel room in New Orleans and never slept in it. I spent the night in a renovated warehouse with a man who said he was saving me.......to this day, I keep telling him.....you can't save people. They have to save themselves.

"or people whose sheets match their curtains" I remember when you were engaged to your childhood sweetheart. I cried for a week, because I thought that you would be like the side of our family who moves to Long Island and decorates their home with matching sheets and curtains, and you would become one more family member I cared about but could never understand.

I think you summed up a longing that we all recognize but that's hard to put into words. Well done!

Also, talking of sheets matching curtains, when I moved in here I had only one set of sheets and they were a gift. They were cheesy blue things with snowflakes on and I used them even in summer. They didn't match the curtains. Or indeed anything on Earth. Ghastly.
