I woke up to this:
and knew that this would be one of those rare mornings where beauty pushes up through the concrete.
I put on my lucky lace ungergarments (not to be confused with my "I'm getting lucky" lace undergarments, the color of which I shall not reveal) and a purple dress, even though I'm alone at the office.
On my walk to the train, an Arab man told me that my skin was more beautiful than snow, and offered to buy me a Christmas tree.
I put my Ipod on shuffle and didn't press skip when it chose a recorded poem by Mahina Movement:
...when I write love poems, I scratch them into the sky with my tongue...
A man entered the train with pamphlets, yelling the words of Jesus Christ and I told him "no thank you. I don't need to be saved today."
...this conversation between two tongues is understood...
In lieu of another dining post today, I'd like to share some songs that have been making my rotation a lot lately, and remind you to drop by la casa de Steve Brown, and wish him a happy birthday.
4:35 of this song never fails to break me to pieces.
I'm a wildflower, waving for you...Broadcasting tower, waving for you...
My glass is waiting for some fresh ice cubes...
Charming duets are a guilty pleasure, as is the phrase Be careful, you fool...
I can gather all the news I need on the weather report
hey, I've gone nothing to do today but smile...
Happy Friday, strangers.

When I lived in NYC, the thing that used to make my commute were the days you were jammed into a subway car, feeling pissed off at the crowds and that little three man mariachi band would get on and play. That used to make my day every time. I loved those guys. That music and their harmonies were just perfect to drown out the mundane commuting crowd and put some BRRRRRRRRRACHACA! into my soul. The Jesus guy? Not so much. Take your lord elsewhere, fucker!
I love that S&G song. It's one of my favourites!
Miss,
I really dig your work. I appreciate raw and edgy poetry.
Big fan of "Dry the Rain" but not so much The Beta Band, I sadly discovered.
I indulge the local Jehovah's Witness whenever I see him. Stop for just a minute sometime and see what the guy has to say. If nothing else, you might make him feel better about himself.
i looooove getting dressed up on fridays too! i also wore a purple dress today. however, i also wore it yesterday as well. and i might smell?
I sympathise with always seeming to attract the nutters on public transport! The dress sounds lovely

I love that you have lucky lace undergarments as well as getting lucky lace undergarments. I pretty much have a set for every mood and outfit I experience.
I'm going to make a sign that says La Casa De Steve Brown and put it up on the door to my room 8D
So are guys just not allowed to ever wear lace undergarments? Not that I would, I'm just curious. They sound comfortable and fancy.
@The Vegetable Assassin -
You know, despite evidence of the contrary, your comment reveals that I have become bit jaded over the years living here.
When those mariachi dudes enter my train car at 9 a.m., overpowering the calm romance of Mazzy Star singing "Faaaaaaade into you" or Paul Simon whispering sweet nothings in my ear, I cringe. Visibly. Then I sigh. Audibly. Then I turn up my music as loud as I can, and sigh again.
But I used to like them. I'm officially one of those people I hate.
There are these other performers, the Doo Wop dudes, however, who never fail to make my day. Ipod Off. In the still of the niiiiiiight.
The best part is that they always end by saying "Smile. It won't mess up your hair." and tip their hats before moving on to the next train car.
P.s. If you still lived in NYC, I would be trying to spot the cartoonization of you on the street, and it would probably happen magically. I am convinced.
@Blogblibion - Thanks. I hope you come back, and continue to call me "miss" because it makes me feel all proper.
@Eric - Have you heard "Squares?" If you haven't, definitely give it chance.
...Miles and miles of squares...Where's the feeling there?...
I have a thing for the calm kind of loneliness a song like that depicts. But I half agree with you. Beta Band is hit or miss.
Also, Jehovas Witnesses want to chat. Crazy Jesus people want to scream. No thank you.
@Hipstercrite - It's funny that I get dressed up for no reason, yet still do things like go for a nightcap at the bar next door to my apartment and realize I left the house without a bra on halfway through me drink...oops.
I'm sure ya smell like roses. Roses and PBR.
@Kate - Thanks for the sympathy. I feel sad when it's someone begging for change. Or entertained when it's someone singing about Jesus. But the screaming, I just can't abide the screaming.
Uncorked- How wonderful is lingerie? Even if it's for my eyes only.
Steve- I have a feeling you will not find them comfortable, but I hereby give you permission to wear man-lace. The condition being that you write a blog post about it.
Don't know why I ran into your blog...was searching Christmas...but love Joni Mitchell and Simon and Garfunkel...first time for 'Dry The Rain' [I was thinking Novacaine Rain]...thanks for the great music links!
Wishing you a Blessed Christmas

my 'daughter' in Romania did the cover of the book there.
The cover of Don't Let Me Be Lonely?!
Wow! Started reading a few blogs up (just found you). And wow. Our lives are so different. Our personalities too, somewhat. But you words are beautiful, therefore you are too.
Hi,
Listening to Nina Simone is like traveling back in time for real.
Kind regards,
José
